For a playground to thrive, good maintenance is essential. Learn how to maximize your agency or school’s playground maintenance efforts by properly identifying and correcting potentially hazardous conditions on the playground. This session will help you define your maintenance plan as a key to protecting your investment, managing risk, improving children’s play experiences, promoting community values, and controlling expenses. This session will allow you to identify procedures for correcting hazardous conditions and to develop inspection protocols and procedures for a sustainable playground maintenance program.

Teri Hendy, CPSI
The Hendy Institute
Teresa B. Hendy, CPSI (Teri) is President of the Hendy Institute. After spending nearly 30 years with Site Masters Inc. as a playground design and safety consultant Teri decided to change directions and focus on research, education and advocacy related to the value of play. Teri is dedicated to the promotion of play for all ages.
Ms. Hendy is vice-chair of the F15.29 Subcommittee that is responsible for the development of the ASTM F1487 Standard for public playground equipment. Teri has been honored by ASTM for her commitment to playground safety.
As a design and safety consultant Teri was responsible for creating hundreds of play environments throughout the United States. She was actively involved as a designer of these environments and as a safety consultant to play equipment manufacturers, amusement parks, fast food corporations, child-care agencies, schools, museums, science centers as well as government park and recreation agencies. Ms. Hendy authored training programs relating to the development of a comprehensive system of hazard identification, site analysis, maintenance and risk reduction. Many of these programs have been adopted and are practiced by private corporations, schools and public agencies throughout the United States.

Inés is responsible for promoting the value of recreation for people of all ages and abilities. She provides continuing educational opportunities, professional development, and research that supports recreation and play while generating partnerships and alliances in the field. She joined the PlayCore team in August 2013 after obtaining her PhD in Parks, Recreation and Tourism from NC State University. Before joining PlayCore, she was an instructor at NC State University in the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Department. In addition, she has experience in event planning, program management, research, and national presentations.
